CORONAVIRUS
 There is an outbreak of coronavirus code-named COVID-19 in Wuhan China. It is a respiratory disease which is highly infectious and is spreading widely from person to person. It is now a pandemic because of the growing number of cases reported in many parts of the world. The virus is believed to have emanated from an outdoor market in the city of Wuhan and spread from person to person.

It is an act of individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19, separating themselves for 14 days to monitor if they develop symptoms.

WHOM DOES SELF-QUARANTINE CONCERN?
Anyone who has travelled within the past 14 days to a country with sustained reported COVID-19 cases or has had close contact with a person showing COVID-19 symptoms.

WHAT DOES SELF-QUARANTINE ENTAILS?
  • Separate room
  • Clean surfaces
  • Avoid sharing items
  • Disposing tissues
  • Wash your hands
  • No visitors
  • Wear a mask
  • Medical attention
MISCONCEPTION AND FACTS
  1. #Age misconception: Coronavirus only affects older people.
FACT: People of all ages can be infected by the new CORONAVIRUS.

2.#Vaccine misconception: A vaccine to prevent COVID-19 is available.

FACT: There is no vaccine for the new CORONAVIRUS right now. Scientists have already begun working on one, it takes a lot of time to develop a vaccine that is safe and effective to human being.

3.#Misconception about protection: You can protect yourself by swallowing or gargling bleach, taking acetic acid or steroids, or using essential oils, saltwater or ethanol.

FACT: None of these substances can protect you from getting COVID-19, and some may be harmful to your health.

4.#Misconception about the virus being a biological weapon: It was created as a biological weapon and deliberately released.

FACT: COVID-19 is a new strain of CORONAVIRUS disease that is now being transmitted from human to human.

5.#Race misconception: CORONAVIRUS does not affect black people.
FACT: All human beings are at a risk of contracting CORONAVIRUS.

6.#Misconception about imports: Importing products from the countries affected by COVID-19 will transmit the disease.

FACT: CORONAVIRUS can not survive outside the human body for more than 24 hours. It is very unlikely that the virus can survive on a surface after being exposed to different conditions.

7.#Alcohol: Drinking alcohol will protect you from CORONAVIRUS.

FACT: Drinking alcohol cannot kill the virus that have already entered your body. The most effective way to protect yourself against CORONAVIRUS is by frequent cleaning your hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizers or washing them with soap and running water.

8.#Pets: You can get CORONAVIRUS from pets.

FACT: According to WHO, there is no evidence that household pets can pass on CORONAVIRUS, however, it's always good to wash your hands with soap and water after contact with pets. This protects you against various common bacteria.
