THE TUM CULTURAL WEEK GRAND FINALECultural Week at Technical University of Mombasa Ends in Style.

The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) recently concluded its highly anticipated Cultural Week with a grand event held on Friday night, 23rd June. The event was a spectacular showcase of talent, diversity, and the vibrant culture within the university. Students, staff, and members of the community gathered to witness a series of captivating performances, competitions, and announcements that made the evening truly unforgettable.

One of the highlights of the night was the performances by internal artists from the institution. These talented individuals captivated the audience with their melodious voices, impressive dance moves, and awe-inspiring poetry. Their performances showcased the immense talent within the university and provided a platform for students to express themselves creatively. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by the artists left the crowd cheering for more.

Another enthralling segment of the event was the modeling club’s performance. The models strutted down the runway with grace and confidence, displaying the latest fashion trends.

This segment not only provided a platform for students interested in fashion and modeling but also promoted inclusivity and body positivity.

The announcement of Mr. And Mrs. TUM 2023/2024 winners, Freddie and Becky, was met with excitement and applause. This competition not only celebrated beauty but also intelligence, charisma, and leadership qualities. The winners will serve as ambassadors for the university and contribute to various charitable initiatives throughout their tenure, inspiring their fellow students.

The football game final between TUM Kogalo and TUM Muslims was a thrilling match that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. The intense competition showcased the skill and passion of the players. Although the match ended in a draw after extra time, the TUM Muslims emerged victorious in the penalty shootout. This event fostered a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition among students from different backgrounds.

The bodybuilding competition, known as Mr. Flex, displayed the dedication and hard work of the participants. The sculpted physiques and impressive strength of the contestants wowed the audience. This competition not only promoted physical fitness but also inspired students to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Dance performances by internal students were met with thunderous applause. Matilda, also known as “Mattie the dangerous,” emerged as the winner in this category, showcasing her extraordinary talent and versatility.

 The salsa dance performance, executed by pairs of talented dancers, added an element of elegance and excitement to the event. The surprise appearance of TUMSA president Kelvin Songsa, showcasing his dance moves on stage, brought an unexpected and entertaining twist to the evening.

One of the most memorable aspects of the Cultural Week was the traditional food competition. Different communities within the institution participated, bringing forth their culinary expertise and cultural heritage. This competition not only celebrated diversity but also promoted cultural exchange and appreciation among the students. The event provided a platform for individuals to showcase their traditional dishes and fostered a sense of unity.

The artist of the day, Fathermoh, known for the hit song “Ndovu ni kuu,” delivered an electrifying performance that had the crowd on their feet. The energetic music, combined with Butrose’s captivating stage presence, created an atmosphere of joy and celebration. The audience danced and sang along, thoroughly enjoying the entertainment.

Overall, the Cultural Week event at the Technical University of Mombasa had a profoundly positive impact. It provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, fostering a sense of confidence and self-expression.

However, it’s important to acknowledge some potential negative impacts of such events. The organization and execution of large-scale events can be logistically challenging.
